Powering Fan Experiences at Germany's Largest Stadium

Borussia Dortmund, one of Germany's largest football clubs, has partnered with Extreme Networks to deploy a cutting-edge Wi-Fi 6E-ready network in their stadium, the largest in Germany with a capacity of up to 81,365 standing and seated. This initiative aims to modernize experiences throughout the stadium and team facilities, creating a foundation for future technologies such as in-seat concessions ordering and in-stadium AR/VR.

The new network promises to enhance fan experiences and stadium operations, which are secured by high-performance fiber optic connections to the 1&1 Versatel network, with high-performance wireless connectivity.

This includes benefits like real-time sports betting, faster mobile ticket scanning, and improved administrative processes. Additionally, the network's increased bandwidth will support various operational needs, from smart security cameras to cashless transactions.

With Extreme Fabric Connect, Borussia Dortmund can scale its network quickly and ensure its operational network is secure and separate from the fan-facing network. ExtremeCloud Business Insights for Venues provides real-time insights into network activity, helping the Club make data-driven decisions to improve staffing, sponsorship opportunities, and fan engagement strategies.

"Our new Wi-Fi 6E ready network will enable us to find new opportunities for sponsorships and monetization, lean into new fan experiences like real-time sports betting, and ensure we are ready for future use cases that we may not be aware of today. We now feel that we are prepared to increase our goals for technology usage throughout our offices and team operations."
