Extreme Networks Joins Linux Foundation and Ultra Ethernet Consortium, Reinforcing Commitment to Accelerating Industry Innovation

As part of Extreme Networks’ commitment to accelerating industry innovation and promoting standards that improve customer experiences, Extreme has joined the Ultra Ethernet Consortium (UEC) and the Linux Foundation. With these memberships, Extreme will continue to help advance industry standards and simplify customer experiences in multivendor, AI-powered network environments.

Ultra Ethernet Consortium

Ethernet has become an increasingly critical technology due to its wide ecosystem and the fact that it has been so widely deployed over its long existence. However, growing demands on the network have caused concerns that traditional network interconnects cannot provide the required performance, scale, and bandwidth to keep up with new needs like supporting AI workloads. The Ultra Ethernet Consortium (UEC) was formed by a group of vendors and operators that wanted to address this concern by adding new features and capabilities to the known and proven Ethernet technology specification.

With the UEC working to increase Ethernet speeds to 400G and 800G per second, it is now the technology of choice for AI workloads used in scale-out data center networks. As organizations look to support bandwidth-heavy AI workloads, Ultra Ethernet, a next-generation, open Ethernet-based communication standard developed by the UEC, is designed to meet the performance, scalability, and interoperability of AI and HPC high performance compute workloads.
