UNESP Builds a Better Student Experience with Extreme

São Paulo State University (UNESP) has embarked on a significant network upgrade to enhance its educational infrastructure. This initiative aims to provide superior network performance, ensuring that students and staff can leverage modern technologies like online learning resources, robotics, and AR/VR. With the deployment of an end-to-end Wi-Fi 6 network managed via ExtremeCloud IQ, UNESP's 25 campuses across Brazil are set to experience substantial improvements in connectivity and network management.

Challenges

  • Outdated Infrastructure: The university had not invested in network upgrades for over a decade.
  • Fragmented Network Management: Each campus operated independently with no standardized network infrastructure, leading to inconsistent user experiences.
  • Limited Wi-Fi Coverage: Students faced unreliable connectivity, hindering their access to essential online resources.

Solutions

Extreme Networks, in collaboration with Roost, provided a comprehensive solution to address these challenges:

  • Universal Wired and Wireless: Enhanced network speeds and coverage, ensuring reliable access to online resources across all campuses.
  • ExtremeCloud IQ: Centralized cloud management platform providing granular visibility and control over the entire network.
  • Standardized Network Practices: Unification of network management practices across all campuses to ensure consistent user experiences.
  • Training and Support: Roost delivered training sessions to the IT teams to optimize network operations and enable strategic, data-driven decisions.

"We have received very positive feedback from our users. The new wireless access points cover larger areas with better signal and speed, solving many connectivity issues and significantly improving our network quality."
Marcus Costa
Infrastructure Manager, UNESP

Results

  • Improved Connectivity: Students now enjoy uninterrupted access to Google Classroom and other online resources, regardless of their location on campus.
  • Enhanced Network Management: The IT team can swiftly manage Wi-Fi access, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues with ease using ExtremeCloud IQ.
  • Unified Network Infrastructure: The network upgrade standardizes practices across all campuses, providing consistent and reliable connectivity for students and staff.
  • Future-Proofing: The scalable infrastructure supports the development of IoT applications and the creation of a smart campus, showcasing UNESP’s pioneering spirit in adopting cloud-based solutions.
