In a 2024 study from LifeLoop, 84% of senior living leaders cited workforce shortages as one of the industry's biggest challenges. This underscores one of many reasons why technology has become essential to delivering high-quality resident care. As New Perspective Senior Living grows through acquisitions, every newly acquired community must be brought online quickly with secure, reliable networking that supports caregivers from day one.

Using Extreme switching and Wi-Fi 6E access points along with Extreme Platform ONE, New Perspective has standardized how it modernizes new communities, replacing residential-grade infrastructure with AI-assisted, repeatable deployments that reduce manual work, accelerate onboarding, and improve caregiver responsiveness.

Enable a lean IT team to scale faster

"Anything that I can do, whether it's AI-based or automation-based, like Extreme Platform ONE, to make the lives of my IT team easier is a huge thing for us. The whole goal is agility."

Shane Imsland

Senior IT Director, New Perspective Senior Living

The Challenge: Scaling Growth Without Compromising Care

New Perspective operates 48 senior living communities across eight states and plans to grow to nearly 100 communities through acquisitions over the next three years. Each acquisition presents the same challenge: rapidly replacing aging technology while maintaining uninterrupted care for residents.

Spanning independent living, assisted living, and memory care, many of New Perspective's newly acquired communities arrive with residential-grade networking, paper-based records, outdated physical security, and inconsistent infrastructure. Some also lacked modern access control and surveillance systems.

“Most of the communities we acquire are running Ubiquiti, a few Ruckus, and a lot of NETGEAR. It’s all residential grade,” Imsland said regarding legacy infrastructure in acquired communities. “We went in to upgrade one community that was previously using keypads and hard key locks, and they had no door access control or cameras.”

To keep pace with growth, the IT team needed to:

Replace residential-grade networking with enterprise-grade wired and wireless infrastructure

Standardize every newly acquired community

Maintain reliable connectivity for mission-critical applications for health monitoring of residents, including electronic health records, nurse call systems, and life-safety systems like push-button pendants

Modernize physical security

Scale deployments without adding IT headcount

The Solution: Repeatable Deployments Powered by AI

Rather than rebuilding every network from scratch, New Perspective standardized deployments using Extreme Platform ONE. With AI-assisted automation and preconfigured network templates, the IT team can replicate proven designs across every new location, dramatically reducing deployment time and manual effort.

“To have everything preconfigured, or an AI that can say 'Set this up like that community' helps us build it out and cuts that timeframe, which is huge for us," said Imsland.

To keep pace with growth, the IT team needed to:

Reuse standardized network configurations

Preconfigure wired and wireless deployments before arriving onsite – saving hours and days of work.

Bring new communities online faster with less downtime

Reduce repetitive manual work for a lean IT organization

The Business Impact: Faster Networks. Better Care.

Reliable networking isn't just an IT improvement, it's directly improving resident care.

“For communities we're shifting from older, residential solutions to Extreme, it's a 25 percent improvement in care response times," said Imsland. "If a community is going from a paper records system to our Extreme network, that's a 50 percent improvement in those call-button response times.”

With Extreme, New Perspective has:

Improved caregiver response times by up to 50%

Segmented resident traffic from critical care systems

Modernized physical security across acquired communities

Created a consistent resident experience across every location

The new network has also opened new revenue opportunities.

“We're building ROI around our telecom stack," said Imsland. "I can literally have a switch where I turn on phone, cable and internet in a room and recharge for it. It becomes an NOI item instead of a cost.”

Built for What's Next

As New Perspective nearly doubles its footprint over the next three years, the company has transformed onboarding from a custom IT project into a repeatable operational process.

"Today, I can switch over nine communities in just over a week. Eventually, it will be 25 communities in two weeks," said Imsland.

Growth is no longer constrained by network deployments.

With Extreme Platform ONE, AI-driven automation, and standardized enterprise networking, Imsland and his team can now integrate acquisitions faster, support caregivers more effectively, and deliver a consistent resident experience from day one.

"Whether it's Platform ONE, AI, or preconfigured deployments, we're trying to be as agile as we can."
