Overview

Cameron Mitchell Restaurants, a nationally renowned restaurant group known for providing unforgettable dining experiences, faced a modern challenge: scaling secure, high-performance network infrastructure across 74 unique locations while maintaining operational excellence. Led by Orlando Sprockel, Director of IT, the company turned to managed services provider Logically to design and execute a full network and security transformation—featuring an enterprise-grade Extreme Networks deployment and SonicWall firewalls.

The result: dramatically improved wireless performance, greater security visibility and control, and a more flexible, scalable environment to support continued growth.

The Challenge

With rapid expansion and an increasing reliance on digital tools and guest Wi-Fi, Cameron Mitchell’s existing infrastructure—based on Cisco Meraki switches and access points — struggled to keep up. Cameron Mitchells’s environment was a Cisco Meraki shop (APs, firewalls, small business switches). With Cisco, they struggled to do fine-grained configuration between APs—especially important as the business evolved. The company had also transitioned from a wired, on-prem POS system to Toast, which is wireless-first and requires reliable Wi-Fi coverage. These changes left Cameron Mitchell facing a defined set of challenges that, with Logicallys guidance, pointed to the appropriate Extreme Networks solution:

  • Inconsistent Wi-Fi Performance: Restaurants varied in layout and demand, leading to patchy coverage and interference, including unintentional external access near high-traffic locations.
  • Lack of 24/7 IT Support: Managing a distributed environment required round-the-clock responsiveness, which strained the internal IT team. Cisco did not offer the ability to co-manage the network equipment.
  • Cybersecurity Pressures: Without dedicated cybersecurity expertise, the team faced rising risk from alerts and potential vulnerabilities.
  • Complex Vendor Ecosystem: Mixing equipment from different providers added configuration complexity and made troubleshooting more difficult.

The Solution: Partnership with Logically, Extreme Networks and SonicWall

To modernize its infrastructure, Cameron Mitchell partnered with Logically to deliver a consistent, secure, and flexible network foundation across all 74 locations—built on Extreme Networks switches and APs for network performance, and SonicWall firewalls for advanced security.

Unified, Enterprise-Grade Network with Extreme

The company is currently transitioning from Cisco Meraki APs and switches to a standardized infrastructure powered by Extreme’s cloud-managed networking solutions to simplify and scale operations, including:

  • Extreme’s Wi-Fi 6 access points tailored to each restaurant’s unique floor plan. Additional benefits include:
    • More reliable Wi-Fi coverage to support handheld devices for associates.
    • The Ability to fine-tune wireless performance (enough power and coverage for servers on patios, but without spilling Wi-Fi to nearby boats/guests).
    • Partnering with Logically to get the configuration flexibility and control they couldn’t achieve with Meraki.
  • Extreme Switches for reliable performance and scalability
  • ExtremeCloud™ IQ for centralized management and control
  • Predictive AP Analytics to ensure optimal placement, minimize dead zones, and prevent signal bleed (e.g., Wi-Fi reaching outdoor diners at Ocean Prime in Fort Lauderdale but extending to nearby boats in the marina)

Collectively this modernization has powered better wired and wireless network bandwidth, performance and visibility.

“Every restaurant has different needs and layout challenges. Extreme’s predictive analytics and unified visibility helped us deploy APs more intelligently. Now we have stronger signal strength where it matters most—and no accidental coverage outside the venue.”

Co-Management and Customization at Scale

Thanks to Extreme’s open architecture and Logically’s hands-on support, Orlando’s team now benefits from flexible co-management and tailored configurations:

  • Custom VLANs and policies per location
  • Shared access to a centralized network runbook
  • Logically handles daily operations while Orlando’s team maintains strategic control
“It’s not just plug-and-play. We can customize everything for each restaurant. And with Logically and Extreme, we’re never flying blind—we always have the tools, support, and visibility we need.”
Orlando Sprockel

Strengthening Security with SonicWall

The modernization effort also included replacing aging firewalls with SonicWall TZ470. This provided:

  • Advanced threat protection
  • Improved alert management
  • Seamless integration with PCI-compliant systems like Toast

Logically helped configure firewall rules and coordinate with third-party platforms to ensure PCI compliance across the enterprise.

The Results

The partnership between Logically, Extreme, and SonicWall provided the granular wireless control Cisco lacked, enabling Cameron Mitchell to balance strong operational connectivity with security and guest boundaries. Additional results included:

  • Unified infrastructure across 74 locations
  • Better Wi-Fi performance, which improves guest experience, satification and revenue
  • Faster incident response with 24/7 support
  • Reduced downtime and streamlined vendor management
  • Improved cybersecurity posture and compliance confidence

What’s Next

Cameron Mitchell’s IT team is investing in training and sandbox environments to become even more self-sufficient on Extreme’s platform, while continuing to rely on Logically as a strategic partner for support and innovation.

In July 2025, Cameron Mitchell will proudly open a new restaurant, Big Rock Italian Chop House in Birmingham, MI, featuring the new network and security configuration from Extreme Networks and SonicWall.
