This Farpoint Group White Paper discusses how Wi-Fi achieved its position of prominence as the contemporary edge of the organization network and touches upon the advent of AI and ML based enhancements.
We’re at the dawn of a new era in wireless-LAN management that will be dominated by applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML). And while such may sound exotic to the point of implying a science project being loosed on unsuspecting end-user organizations by vendors anxious to capitalize on the next big thing, ready or not, it’s our mission here to demonstrate quite the opposite: AI/ML is already hard at work in organizational networks improving performance, capacity, operating expense, reliability, and ROI, and that the underlying technologies, thanks to decades of evolution involving a broad range of applications, are really not that exotic at all. AI/ML is in fact poised to lead the way, we believe, to the next era of Wi-Fi, on a par with major advances from IEEE 802.11 Working Groups and the Wi-Fi Alliance. AI/ML as applied to RF really is, then, The Next Big Thing.
