Where is the 5G? – Work at a Manufacturing Plant

Marcus Burton Architect, Cloud Technology Published 2 May 2022

Today’s technology news cycle is full of 5G, and simultaneously full of promises for a different future. We already use several wireless technologies every day. But have you ever stopped to think about which technologies enable your daily interactions today, and how they might change in the future? Which wireless technologies are prevalent at home? What type of wireless is dominant when we’re mobile—in cars, buses, and other forms of transportation? And what about school, work, or leisure?

We decided to take an animated walk through a day in the life of a normal IT professional and see where he uses 5G, Wi-Fi, and other RF technologies for connectivity. In the first episode, his day started at home. In the second episode, we discussed his commute to work. Now, in episode 3, we examine what wireless technologies our IT hero might use at his job in a manufacturing plant.
