What is a SDN Network?

Software-Defined Networking (SDN) is an approach to network management that allows the control and configuration of network devices to be programmatically managed using software applications. In traditional network architectures, the control and data planes are tightly integrated within network devices such as routers and switches. By separating these planes, SDN centralizes control in a software-based controller that communicates with the network devices to direct traffic and enforce policies.
