Federal Ministry Builds a Modern, Powerful, Secure Storage Network


iSCSI-SANs built on a grand scale.

The Austrian Federal Ministry of the Interior, Bundesministerium für Inneres (BM.I) searched for a storage network for its state computer centers in eight federal states and two sites in Vienna.

In order to securely store and quickly retrieve around 300 terabytes of data, the storage solution leveraged iSCSI-SAN with Ethernet components and unified storage systems.

The benefits included 10GBit/s system-wide for top performance in the SAN, significantly more cost-effective to buy and run than a Fibre Channel SAN, and perfectly coordinated components for a smooth operation.
