Thomson Reuters Recognizes Extreme as One of the Top Most Innovative Bay Area Companies Extreme Networks is honored to be included on Thomson Reuters’ inaugural Top Bay Area Innovators list! This report highlights companies that are leading the way in the region and is a supplement to Thomson Reuters’ annual Top 100 Global Innovators report.

This team selects high-performing companies that are actively discovering new concepts and have filed a number of successful patents that influenced others on a global scale. With the newest addition to the report, Thomson Reuters has recognized that the Bay Area is the U.S. hub for innovation and inevitably the home of revolutionary leaders. As one of these leaders, Extreme Networks has been identified as a pioneer in the industry that is developing new ideas and making them a reality within its community. In addition to holding over 500 patents worldwide, Extreme recently received two key patents related to our Purview application identification capabilities with several more patents pending.


The theme of this year’s report is “Honoring the World Leaders of Innovation,” which highlights companies across 21 industries, from computer software to aerospace. Norman Rice is the Executive Vice President of Global Marketing, Corporate Development, and the Stadium & Venue Business Unit for Extreme Networks. In this capacity, Norman manages Extreme’s corporate strategy, M&A pursuits as well as manages Extreme’s Stadium and Entertainment Business Unit. Norman manages the Company relationships with the NFL, IMG as well as a number of NFL Clubs. Prior to working for Extreme, Norman had operating roles with leading Private Equity firms (Marlin and Gores Group) as well as management roles with CA, Concord Communications (Acquired by CA), Aprisma Management Technologies (Acquired by Concord), HoustonStreet Exchange and MicroStrategy. Norman is a Director on the Board of DSP Group (NASDAQ: DSPG) and was previously on the Board of NitroSecurity (Acquired by McAfee) and Advisory Board of vKernel (Acquired by Quest Software). Norman holds a Masters degree in Engineering and a Masters Degree in Management, both from Dartmouth College and a BS from the University of Michigan.
