FleetCor Provides Reliable Payment and Processing through Cloud-Ready, Extreme Backbone

Published 8 May 2018

As the world’s leading independent global fleet card provider, FleetCor has more than 2.5 million payment cards in circulation and about 530,000 commercial accounts across the globe. FleetCor stakes its reputation on the reliability and security of each and every transaction made on those cards. When the company added three new global data centers, their first move was to purchase the best backbone switches on the market. And because these data centers were targeted to support a more agile private cloud infrastructure, they needed switches purpose-built for virtualization. After a short evaluation process, FleetCor selected ExtremeRouting MLXe routers. With massive scalability and unprecedented wire-speed performance, the ExtremeRouting MLXe routers provide the bandwidth needed to support FleetCor’s increasing application demands while adding a critical step up to 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) in the future.

Results of the new solution include:

  • Established readiness for private cloud services as well as 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) throughput
  • Has exceeded all service level agreements, with an average uptime of 99.95 percent across the enterprise
  • Eliminated thousands of networking cables, reducing overall hardware costs and improving data center efficiency
  • Reduced the overall switching infrastructure, maintaining a smaller footprint with lower power and cooling requirements

Challenges

  • Ensure customers can authorize, process, bill, and settle accounts over a high performance, highly available private cloud service from three new globally dispersed data centers
