CIOs Can Thrive in the Midst of Cloud, Social, Apps, Big Data, and Mobile

The IT megatrends related to cloud, social, apps, big data, and mobile computing have changed the dynamics between the CIO and business managers. Gartner analyst Laura McLellan believes that by 2017 the CMO will spend more on IT than the CIO. The relevancy of the CIO is slipping away. As another Gartner analyst, Mark McDonald, puts it, there has been a decade of devaluation in IT.

But, that’s not the way it has to be. The role of the CIO can go well beyond just maintaining the systems. CIOs can be prime drivers and enablers of business growth. Michael Krigsman, a regular contributor to the Wall Street Journal and ZDNET, has been helping CIOs flourish in this changing environment – to become #CIOrockstars.  This month, Michael is hosting a workshop, CIO Strategy in a Cloud, Social, and Mobile World to give CIOs the insight and tools they need to thrive in the midst of rapidly-changing technologies.

The interactive workshop is exclusively for CIOs and IT directors of all industries. It deals with how to balance innovation with the conflicting needs of stability and reduced expenses, while still creating an environment that enables business leadership.

Joining Michael as workshop speakers is a seasoned set of innovative CIOs and thought leaders. Phil Komarny is CIO of Seton Hill University and member of the President’s cabinet, whose visionary leadership has propelled the university. Dr. Sam Conn is CIO of Southern Polytechnic State University, the event host. He has over 22 years of professional and industry experience in the field of technology and information systems. Vala Afshar is an author, Huffington Post contributor, co-host of CXO Talk, and expert on CIO influence, as well as CMO and CCO for Enterasys Networks. Tim Chester, CIO of University of Georgia, has been responsible for aligning campus technology services and initiatives with the teaching, research, and administrative functions of the university.

The workshop was successfully kicked off in February and the attendees had this to say: “Very glad I had an opportunity to participate. Was able to collect a lot of good information” and “Very inspiring! The workshop surpassed my expectations.”

These are some of the specific topics that will be covered at the workshop: The New #RockStar CIO, The Challenge, Modern Infrastructure, IT Magic – Beyond Feeds and Speeds, Social Influence and the Modern CIO.

The date of CIO Strategy in a Cloud, Social, and Mobile World is May 31; location is at Southern Polytechnic State University, Marietta, GA. Here’s the sign-up page.
