Wi-Fi Fan Engagements from Super Bowl 50 [Infographic]

Hosted in the San Francisco Bay area and touting a plethora of unique fan engagement offerings, Super Bowl 50 was dubbed by many as the ‘Techiest Super Bowl Ever’ leading up to The Big Game. With that, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that free Wi-Fi was provided throughout the event spaces in order to deliver secure and reliable mobile connectivity to event goers. This included purpose-built, high-density Wi-Fi in the Super Bowl 50 Stadium for fans with tickets to the game itself.

And as fans enjoyed the action unfold on the field, Extreme Networks, the Official Wi-Fi Analytics Provider of Super Bowl 50, whose ExtremeAnalytics tool is currently installed in 17 NFL stadiums across The League, collected Wi-Fi analytics around network performance and mobile engagement patterns for those using the free Wi-Fi network in-stadium at Super Bowl 50.

As expected, the amount of data transferred using the Wi-Fi network was certainly substantial; this is a theory many could have predicted to be true even before the The Big Game began: as Wi-Fi adoption and usage rates continue to grow year over year in NFL stadiums we also see a strong incremental increase of bandwidth consumed by fans.

What’s more compelling is taking a look at how the Wi-Fi network was being used by fans in-stadium; furthermore, when comparing this data with Wi-Fi metrics from the past two Super Bowls, we are able to historically track how mobile engagements over Wi-Fi have transformed over time (at a very high level), and potentially begin hypothesizing how fans will engage in the future!
