Converged infrastructure solutions from Extreme Networks deliver powerful capabilities
to solve the following tough networking challenges.
Voice Class Availability
- Predictable Operations—ExtremeXOS™, a modular operating
system from edge to core, supports hitless software and hardware upgrades, secure
networking, scalable operations, extensible functionality and flexible policy management.
- Preventing Dropped Calls—Ethernet Automatic Protection
Switching (EAPS) enables 50Ms link failover to standby switches.
- Hardware redundancy—Hot swappable cards, fans and power
supplies. Power redundancy also supported.
Integrated Management
- Simplifying Adds, Drops and Changes––Link Layer Discovery
Protocol (LLDP) the standard-based neighbor discovery protocol with MED extensions
configures and manages ports on an Extreme Networks network (PoE auto negotiation,
Universal Port Manager).
- Discovery and Management––Extreme Networks and Avaya have
undertaken joint development to coordinate AIM and EPICenter® management tools to
discover and manage Avaya and Extreme Networks devices from either platform.
Comprehensive Security
- Virtualized Security Resources-Engaging the network to participate
in security through Sentriant™ (rapid threat detection) and Sentriant AG (network access
control). Sentriant works with the
BlackDiamond® CLEAR-Flow security rules engine technology-a comprehensive, scalable
and easy-to-use network-based security solution.
- Login-based Segregation with Cost Savings-Multiple supplicant
support permits a phone to authenticate via its unique 802.1x supplicant or MAC
address and, separately, a PC or other device connected via the phone's second Ethernet
port to authenticate using its unique 802.1x supplicant or MAC address. Unique login/authentication
permits network administrators to segregate and prioritize voice traffic from data
traffic and halves the number of cabling runs and ports required on the network
- Network-based Segregation and Services Protection-Comprising
VLANs, QoS, ACLs, IP Security (i.e., Trusted DHCP server, Gratuitous ARP identification,
ARP Validation, Disable ARP learning, and Source IP Lockdown) and MAC limits.
High Quality Voice Connections
- Dial-tone Availability––Networks offers both Ingress/Egress
QoS queuing with up to 8 queues per port for granular QoS functionality supporting
dial-tone availability under high congestion conditions (Tolly Report, 2005).
- Path Visibility––Extreme Networks has embedded Avaya's Converged
Network Analyzer (CNA) agents on all ExtremeXOS platforms. Deeper voice traffic
monitoring and visibility into the network including auto-rerouting of voice calls
over optimum WAN paths.
- Wireless Mobility––Extreme Networks Summit® WM products support
voice-grade roaming on a wireless infrastructure.
