  • Extreme Networks announced it has agreed to acquire Zebra’s wireless LAN business. According to a leading industry analyst firm, the combined WLAN business will be the third largest provider in its combined target markets and fourth largest by market share. This acquisition strengthens Extreme’s leading position in this market and extends the company into critical new vertical markets, by delivering end-to-end wired and wireless software-driven networking solutions, with industry leading customer service.

 

  • What exactly is Extreme Networks acquiring?
  • Extreme will acquire customers, channel partners, personnel and technology assets from Zebra. This acquisition strengthens and expands Extreme’s end-to-end, wired and wireless software-driven networking solutions and complements its vertical market focus. According to a leading industry analyst firm, the combined WLAN business will be the third largest provider in its combined target markets and fourth largest by market share.

    The acquisition includes a series of new access point (AP) offerings, including Zebra’s wallplate and tri-radio APs to provide versatility and agility across a variety of vertical markets. The acquired business’ software technologies include the WiNG wireless operating system, NSight™  advanced network troubleshooting, service assurance and the vendor agnostic AirDefense™ solution, an industry recognized wireless intrusion prevention and compliance technology.

  • There are no plans at this time to discontinue support or development of any of the currently shipping ExtremeWireless or Zebra WLAN products. The roadmaps for each set of wireless products are planned to proceed uninterrupted until next generation wireless standards are established. At that time, Extreme will incorporate the best in class capabilities of each product into one platform to provide customers with the strongest product across our target markets.

  • At this time, there is no change in Zebra’s WLAN support policy or agreed-upon service levels to customers as a result of this transaction. Existing support agreements will be honored through their contract term. Upon expiration, equivalent ExtremeWorks service offerings will be made available to ensure continuity in support coverage.

 

  • How will customers know if there is a change to their sales account team?
  • Extreme Networks is committed to a smooth transition for customers. Customers will be notified if there are any changes to their account teams.

 

  • Who should Zebra WLAN customers call for product support?
  • Customers should continue using their existing channels. Following the close of the acquisition, you will receive a communication from Extreme Networks which will update you on the appropriate channels to contact.
