With the goal of turning Tasmania into a major hub for ICT R&D, the Australian-based information and communication technology organization, TasmaNet, set out to create a Center of Excellence to offer a laboratory environment for co-operative testing and research and development.

To meet the dynamic capacity demands for the benefit of data centers, Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and cloud computing, TasmaNet required a viable networking solution that could deliver high-capacity, low-cost network access for massive transfers of content and data and enable TasmaNet to manage network performance and capabilities in real-time.

TasmaNet chose to partner with Extreme Networks to build the software-defined networking (SDN) infrastructure upon which technology companies can rely to conduct their trials and tests. The chosen SDN infrastructure would also ultimately drive TasmaNet’s network and enhance its operations on Australia’s high-speed National Broadband Network (NBN).
