EXTREME NETWORKS DETAILS RESULTS OF MULTI-VENDOR PBT INTEROPERABILITY TEST AT CARRIER ETHERNET WORLD CONGRESS 2007
SANTA CLARA, Calif.; Sept. 24, 2007 – Extreme Networks Inc. (NASDAQ: EXTR), today announced that it will be presenting the results of the first Provider Backbone Transport (PBT) interoperability test during the Carrier Ethernet World Congress in Geneva, Switzerland, September 24-28, 2007, at its booth. The highlights of the test include the successful establishment of PBT connections and data forwarding between switches from various vendors and a control plane test where services were dynamically configured across a multi-node PBT network.
According to Ray Mota Ph.D., Chief Strategist and President of Consulting at Synergy Research Group, this test is a major milestone in advancing the adoption of PBT in carrier networks. “Synergy recently completed a study of carriers’ plans to implement PBT, and 85% of those carriers identified the lack of standards and interoperability as the biggest inhibitors to PBT acceptance. This test and its subsequent results advance PBT’s acceptance, and Extreme Networks continues to be at the forefront of this movement.”
Extreme Networks was among 24 equipment vendors who participated in a two-week hot-staging test including the latest IEEE, ITU and MEF specifications for Carrier Ethernet services. The test plan was developed and coordinated by the European Advanced Networking Test Center (EANTC AG) in Berlin, Germany. More than 65 devices made up the network and over 70 engineers from participating vendors evaluated multi-vendor interoperability.
“Particularly impressive during the EANTC testing was the interoperability of SoapStone Networks’ Provider Network Controller (PNC), which dynamically configured five services across a multi-node PBT network,” said Peter Lunk, Extreme Networks Director of Service Provider Marketing. “Extreme Networks has made steady and demonstrated progress in this area with multi-vendor coalitions such as the Carrier Ethernet EcoSystem, proven interoperability both at the NXTcomm show this past June and via the EANTC testing. Now we’ve taken PBT to the next level with the ability to configure and deliver services through our control plane partner.”
Also at the event, Mr. Jan Hof, Extreme Networks director of field marketing, will present the findings of the test in a session entitled, “Assessing the Readiness of PBB-TE Based Carrier Ethernet Transport Solutions for Mass Deployments- Results from the Multi-Vendor Interoperability Test”. The presentation will be held on Tuesday, September 25 at 2:45 pm.
