In 2009, the United Kingdom’s Network Computing named Extreme Networks Summit®
X650 “Top of Rack” data center switch as the “Data Center Product
of the Year,” as part of its third annual Network Computing Awards 2009. The
Summit® X650 is recognized for its high bandwidth performance featuring
10 Gigabit Ethernet in a stackable devices, its simplicity-of-management that reduces
operational costs while maintaining the capability to extend bandwidth for future
requirements through Extreme Networks Versatile Interface Module (VIMs).
Network Computing UK also named Extreme Networks Summit® X450 converged
enterprise LAN switch as the “Infrastructure Product of the Year” as
part of its third annual Network Computing Awards 2009. The Summit®
X450 has been recognized for its powerful and consistent software features and versatility
of Power over Ethernet (PoE) that provides enterprises with operational simplicity
and eased support of connected devices to drive higher productivity.

InfoWorld Magazine honored the BlackDiamond® 10808 and BlackDiamond
8800 series switches with high recognition for real-world technology innovation,
awarding Extreme Networks flagship platform with the "InfoWorld 2007 Technology
of the Year" designation. This is the third such award for the BlackDiamond platform,
which features the innovative ExtremeXOS™ modular operating system to promote
high network availability and enable secure networking. The high-performance BlackDiamond
10808 and 8800 Ethernet switches were singled out for their overall performance,
reliability and distinctive attributes, including high availability through software
and hardware, fast 10 Gigabit switching performance, and the simplicity and comprehensiveness
of network management.
Healthcare IT Magazine named Extreme Networks BlackDiamond 8810 its 2007 Editor's
Choice for the solution's impressive scalability and flexibility in providing a
variety of IT environments with a full-featured network convergence and overall
value, making the modular switch an excellent choice for hospitals and related healthcare
facilities. In awarding the product its Editor's Choice, Healthcare IT Magazine
highlighted the BlackDiamond 8810 switch's overall switching performance, its support
of various combinations of 10 gigabit and Gigabit Ethernet ports and its bandwidth
control with Quality of Service for Voice-over-IP (VoIP) traffic, which is commonly
adopted by healthcare organizations.
Communications World Magazine named Extreme Networks BlackDiamond 8810 switching
solution as Editor's Choice for 2007. The versatile 10 Gigabit Ethernet switch was
recognized for its integrated security features, an impressive set of Ethernet ports,
ease-of-operation and a competitive price, making BlackDiamond 8810 an excellent
choice for converged enterprise networks. In awarding the product, the team of editors
noted the BlackDiamond 8810's reliability and ability to simplify the enterprise
network through its various configuration possibilities.
Network Magazine honored the BlackDiamond 10808 switch and the ExtremeWare XOS operating
system by recognizing it with the 2005 Innovation Award for its unique approach
to opening the core switch for collaboration to promote integration with third-party
solutions. The solution was named the "Most Visionary" for its ability to increase
intelligence and device collaboration for emerging areas such as security and IP
Telephony.
Frost & Sullivan named Extreme Networks the winner of its Product Line Strategy
Award for the Enterprise Switch Market. Extreme Networks provides network infrastructure
products for large enterprises and organizations. Its major customers deploy sophisticated
mission-critical applications that require powerful, high-speed and highly efficient
data networks to provide access to these core systems and applications. Extreme

TechWorld Magazine of the United Kingdom named the BlackDiamond 8800 switch the
Network Award winner as 2005 Switch Product of the Year. The networking solution
was recognized by the judging panel for its innovative design and features that
allow for a resilient and highly available network supporting both data and voice
applications. The Techworld Network Awards recognize the very best of the network
industry and reward the leading individuals, teams and companies for their innovative
and effective application of cutting-edge technologies.
Network Computing Magazine Germany, selected the BlackDiamond 10808 switch ahead
of Cisco's next-generation 10 gigabit carrier-grade router. The review, where testing
took place in California, resulted in the editors calling the BlackDiamond 10808
switch "The Network Diamond," for its performance, failover capabilities and its
ability to deal with converged traffic such as Voice over IP (VoIP) with little
or zero jitter and latency.
November 22. 2002 - Extreme Networks' vision is enabling customers around the world
to leverage their network infrastructure to meet their business goals. Extreme Networks
is positioned (see press release) as a Visionary by leading market research firm
Gartner, Inc. in the latest Global LAN Campus Magic Quadrant.
October 23, 2001 - Extreme Networks has won the prestigious Best of Show award from
Networld+Interop for the fifth year in a row. That's a Best of Show every year since
our inception. The Summit®Px1 Application Switch was named the best
new product in the performance enhancement category in light of its ability to process
1,000,000 URL pattern rules at gigabit wire speed plus many other proven network
performance improvement capabilities.
May 8, 2001 - Beating out the Cisco Catalyst 2948G-L3 Layer 3 Ethernet switch and
the Intel NetStructure 480T routing switch, Extreme Networks' Summit7i™ Gigabit
Ethernet switch has been named a winner by Network Computing magazine's 2001 Well-Connected
Award in the category of Network and Systems Infrastructure - Fixed Configuration
LAN Switch. The award marks the second consecutive year that Extreme has received
this honor.
May 7, 2001 - Extreme Networks' BlackDiamond 6800 core chassis switch wins InternetWeek's
Best-of-Breed challenge. "You couldn't help but notice that Extreme's numbers were
consistently at or near the top of the heap," editors noted. They also gave kudos
to Extreme for its EPICenter management interface, as well as Extreme's common code
base and architecture across multiple layers.
October 27, 2000 - For the third consecutive season, the industry's leading value-added
resellers and solution providers selected Extreme Networks as the recipient of the
esteemed "Best of VARVision® Award" in the network hardware category
at VARVision Fall 2000. This prestigious award is one of the industry's most recognized
honors, citing excellence not only in product technology but also in reseller channel
programs.
September 10, 2000 - Extreme's Summit48 fixed-configuration switch sets the standard
by which all others are judged, this time by winning the Network Computing Germany
Real-World Labs test for quality of service, latency and jitter. Summit48 beat the
Cabletron SmartSwitch Router 2000, the Hewlett-Packard ProCurve 2424M and the Lucent
P550 Cajun Integrated Router.
May 24, 2000 - After reviewing and evaluating the latest products, technologies
and channel strategies, top resellers at the semi-annual VARVision event presented
Extreme Networks with the prestigious Best of VARVision Award in the network hardware
category. The Best of VARVision Award is significant because it is voted on by the
channel's leading solution and service providers.
May 11, 2000 - For an unprecedented fourth year in a row, Extreme Networks was awarded
the prestigious "Best of Show" in the Enterprise Network Infrastructure category
at Networld + Interop 2000. Extreme's new Alpine 3808 core switch took home the
honors, with editors noting "The Alpine brings new features such as ingress port
rate limiting and transparent Metropolitan LAN bridging. The Alpine offers high
port density 10/100 and gigabit interfaces, and like all Extreme products, wire
speed switching on every port."
May 9, 2000 - For the second year in a row, Extreme Networks' Summit48™ Enterprise
Desktop Switch was chosen as the winner of Network Computing magazine's prestigious
Well-Connected Award in the infrastructure category. The Summit48 beat out the Cisco
Catalyst 3500 Series XL and Foundry Networks FastIron II in the "Best Fixed-Configuration
LAN Switch" category.
April 17, 2000 - Network Magazine announces that Extreme Networks' BlackDiamond
6800 chassis switch is the winner of the 2000 Product of the Year award. In addition
to its fast backplane and wire-speed Layer 2 and 3 performance, editors cite BlackDiamond's
extensive management capabilities and quality of service with bandwidth management
and traffic prioritization.
February 2000 - The BlackDiamond 6800 chassis switch wins the high-density core
switching test conducted by the French publication 01 Reseaux. In tests for Layer
3 switching performance, quality of service and VLAN aggregation, BlackDiamond competed
against the 3Com CoreBuilder 9000, Cabletron SmartSwitch 8600 and HP ProCurve 9304M
October 1999 - Extreme Networks wins the "Best Product: Network Hardware" award
at VARVision, an industry event sponsored by the Gartner Group. The "Best of VARVision
Awards" are voted on by resellers at the event to recognize vendors whose products
and programs lead the industry. Criteria for the award is based upon resellers'
views of a vendor's credibility, innovation, channel friendliness and product capabilities.
September 14, 1999 - The Summit7i Internet Data Center Switch is named Best of Show
Grand Winner at NetWorld + Interop 99 in Atlanta. Data Communications and Internetweek
editors chose the Summit7i for integrating powerful chassis-like features into a
7-inch high stackable switch. Extreme also won in 1997 and 1998, making it the only
firm to receive three Best of Show awards in a row.
June 1999 - The Summit48 wins the VARBusiness review of Layer 3 switches. Editor's
note: "With everything that is installed, the $7,995 purchase price is the best
price-per-port in the review by a wide margin. (We don't know how the company can
get away with an offer like that, but why not take advantage of it?)" The benefits
of the Summit48 are summarized as "low price per port, good performance and good
VAR program."
May 1999 - Summit4 wins the Tester's Choice award from Data Communications magazine.
Editors praised the Summit4's high throughput and low latency, and wrote: "This
gigabit Ethernet workgroup switch posted impressive numbers in all evaluations,
including the lowest overall latency in our burst tests."
May 1999 - Summit48 receives two prestigious Well-Connected awards from Network
Computing. The Summit48 was selected from more than 150 products to receive the
prestigious title as "the best hardware product" of the year. Extreme also won in
the category of "Best Layer 3 Switch." Editors describe the Summit48 as an excellent
investment and write: "With the Summit48, Extreme has brought to market the first
high-functionality 10/100 switch for the edge of the network. While incumbent infrastructure
vendors were charging hundreds of dollars per port for less functionality, Extreme
broke the mold, bringing the per-port price down to the point at which private 100-Mbps
networking is a cost-effective alternative."
April 1999 - BlackDiamond wins the CM Corporate Choice award from CM Corporate,
the leading IT magazine in the Belgium/Dutch market. Outperforming the Packet Engines
PowerRail 5200, editors described BlackDiamond as having the best scalability and
management options. BlackDiamond was praised for having full Layer 3 capabilities
as a standard feature, and not as an expensive option.
January 1, 1999 - For the second year in a row, Extreme Networks wins the Data Communications
magazine Hot Product Award. Presented in 1999 for the Summit48 Enterprise Desktop
Switch, editors note that Extreme sold almost 80,000 Summit48 switch ports within
six months of first shipping the product. That makes it the No. 1 supplier of Layer
3 switch ports, with a market share of 24.1 percent..."
November 1998 - French publication 01 Reseaux presents Extreme Networks with a performance
award for the Summit2 LAN switch. Outperforming Gigabit Ethernet switches from Hewlett-Packard,
Cabletron, Intel and NBase, editors noted that Summit2 performed at wire-speed on
all ports with zero packet loss.
October 19, 1998 - The Summit48 Enterprise Desktop Switch wins with the "Referenz"
award from Network Computing Germany as "Best value for the money." The article
reports that the Summit48 passed all benchmark tests at wire-speed: "We tested the
Layer 3-enabled version of the Summit48. In all of our benchmarks, Layer 2 and Layer
3 alike, the Summit48 passed all traffic at wire speed. Even the rigorous X-Stream
test showed no packet loss against the Summit48."
October 1998 - Extreme Networks wins a second award from the French publication
01 Reseaux for the Summit48 Enterprise Desktop Switch. Editors described the Summit48
as an excellent solution for both workgroups and large networks. Competitors in
this Fast Ethernet switch test included 3Com, Foundry and Intel.
October 1998 - Black Diamond chassis switch wins the Business Communications Review
"BCR Best in Test" award. BlackDiamond beat out the competition for sustaining wire-speed
performance in small and large packet tests, and for zero packet loss in back-to-back
performance tests.
September 1, 1998 - The Summit48 Enterprise Desktop Switch wins Network Computing
magazine's Editors Choice award, Best Value award and Flying Colors award. "With
prices, performance and features like these, it's tough to beat this knockout switch,"
wrote Technology Editor Joel Conover.
September 1998 - Hailed as having "The best Layer 3 Gigabit Ethernet switches,"
Extreme Networks is ranked among the Top 50 privately held technology firms by Red
Herring magazine. Extreme is "a textbook example of how to take a startup from the
seeds of an idea to a growing line of complementary products in a very crowded market."
August 1998 - In Gigabit Ethernet tests, Business Communications Review names the
Summit48 Enterprise Desktop Switch the winner in every category. Editors cite sources
who agree that "Extreme Networks has captured an early lead in this marketplace,
and now holds from half to two-thirds of the Gigabit Ethernet installed base.".
July 6, 1998 - Extreme Networks receives the Best of LAN Times award for the Summit1
LAN switch. With eight full-duplex, non-blocking Gigabit Ethernet ports, LAN Times
editors proclaim "it is every bit as impressive as its forerunners, and it comes
at an even more impressive price."
June 8, 1998 - The Summit48 Enterprise Desktop Switch is named the Best of LAN Times
for its "amazing" price, as well as "fantastic" port density and management. "You
simply cannot go wrong with this switch if your company is leaning toward a Gigabit
Ethernet infrastructure," wrote LAN Times editors.
May 15, 1998 - Network Computing magazine gives the Summit48 Enterprise Desktop
Switch its "Editor-Refuses-to-Give-it-Back" award after extensive lab tests. Editors
called Summit48 "nothing short of phenomenal" and predicted "this high-capacity,
high-performance box will be challenging the likes of 3Com Corp. and Cisco Systems."
May 5, 1998 - The Summit48 Enterprise Desktop Switch wins the Best of Show award
at NetWorld + Interop 98 in Las Vegas. Data Communications and LAN Times editors
selected Summit48 for its superb features, performance and price. Extreme also won
in 1997, making it the only firm to date to receive back-to-back Best of Show awards.
May 4, 1998 - The Summit4 Integrated Server Switch receives InternetWeek magazine's
Best of Breed award after a competitive performance test. The testing staff chose
Summit4 because of its "very high bandwidth, hot performance, solid manageability"
- and the "cool purple color."
February 1, 1998 - Extreme Networks' Summit1 and Summit2 switches win the Data Communications
magazine Testers Choice Award. Touted by editors as "the fastest devices we've ever
tested," Summit1 and Summit2 "smashed several Data Comm lab test performance records."
March 1998 - Summit2 wins the Layer 3 IP routing switch test in the French publication
01 Reseaux. Summit2 beat out the competition, which included 3Com, Nortel Networks,
Hewlett-Packard, Lannet and RND. Summit2 was described by editors as an exceptional
choice, surpassing both backbone routers and ATM switches.
January 26, 1998 - Extreme Networks' Summit1 is the only Gigabit Ethernet backbone
switch to win the NetworkWorld Blue Ribbon Award. Summit1 wows NetworkWorld editors,
who call it "Extreme-ly Impressive" and "the pinnacle of performance."
January 1, 1998 - Data Communications magazine gives the prestigious 1998 Hot Products
Award to Extreme Networks for Summit1, Summit2 and Summit Virtual Chassis. Editors
cite their "scalable IP routing platform that lets network managers build a chassis-like
switch from stackable components."
December 1997 - The Mier Communications product test center bestows Extreme Networks
with its distinguished "NetWORKS as Advertised" award after the Summit1 LAN switch
blows away Foundry, Prominet and Bay in competitive performance tests.
October 21, 1997 - Editors at Data Communications magazine rank Extreme Networks
among the Top 25 Hot Startups. Extreme Networks was recognized for being one of
the first companies to offer wire-speed Layer 3 switching.
May 12, 1997 - Extreme Networks' Summit1 LAN switch is named Best of the Best Grand
Winner and Best of Show winner at NetWorld + Interop 97 in Las Vegas. Sponsored
by Data Communications and LAN Times magazines, editors chose Summit1 for combining
Gigabit performance, Wire-Speed IP Routing and quality of service.
